History
Savage was originally called Hamilton, after the town’s first port, Hamilton Landing. However, in the early 1900s, the town voted to change the name to honor Marion Savage, who owned the internationally-famous racing horse Dan Patch. They still honor the racing legend, whose pacing mile world record remained unbroken for 54 years, every June with the Dan Patch Days festival! World War II and the construction of multiple interstate roadways caused a sharp increase in Savage’s population, giving way to the industrial manufacturing job center that we know today.
